    Tips on what to do if your vehicle breaks down along the roadway
    Attempt to get the vehicle off the roadway and out of path of oncoming traffic; if you can do so safely
    If you don't feel safe from traffic in your car, and weather permits; get out and stand away from your car and off of the roadway
    Turn on your hazard flashers
    If you have a cell phone call law enforcement or family/friend for assistance
    If an unknown motorist stops to render assistance, stay with your vehicle and ask them to get help

    Tips on what to do if you think you're being followed
    Stay calm
    Call 911 if you have a cell phone
    Describe to police dispatchers your location and direction of travel, the other vehicles color, make, model. Number of occupants, and driver's description
    Flash your lights and sound your horn to attract attention to yourself and the person following you
    Keep your car doors locked
    Drive to a safe place(business, police department). Sound the horn and flash the lights until someone you trust is there to assist you.

    Road rage prevention tips
    Do not follow too closely to the vehicle in front of you.
    Use caution and look before changing lanes.
    Obey all traffic laws.
    When on any 4 lane road use the right lane unless your passing another vehicle.
    Do not make gestures towards other drivers.
    Ignore gestures from other drivers.
    When being passed, slow down and allow the other vehicle to pass.                                                      



    Adult front seat occupants
    The driver and front seat occupants are required to wear a properly adjusted and fastened safety belt or safety harness while the vehicle is in forward motion on a street or highway in this state. Seatbelts must be worn in accordance with the car manufacturer's specifications.


    Child Safety Restraints

    Children under the age of 1 year and under 20 lbs must be in a rear facing infant seat. Both 1 year and 20 lbs must be surpassed before turning the infant around to face forward or before placing them into a convertible seat.
    A child under 4 years old who is being transported in a motor vehicle shall be secured during transit by a child restraint system which meets federal motor vehicle safety standards, and the system shall be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
    A child at least 4 years old but less than their 6th birthday who is being transported in a motor vehicle shall be secured during transit by either a child restraint system that meets federal motor vehicle safety standards and is used in accordance to the manufacturer’s instructions, or by a safety belt or safety harness.
    All children over 6 years old but prior to their 11th birthday must sit in the rear seat when available and be seat belted or using a child restraint system.

    Recommendations
    Children from their 4th birthday and up until their 8th birthday should utilize a booster seat. This allows the seatbelt to restrain them across their chest in the proper manner.
    Children under 9 years old should not sit in a seat where there is a lap belt only when other seats are available with a shoulder strap.
