HOME SAFETY
Doors
All
doors are locked at night or when you leave the house
Doors
have wide-angle peepholes at a height everyone can use.
Doors
are solid wood or metal-clad.
Glass
panels in or near doors are reinforced so that they cannot be shattered.
All
entryways have a working, keyed entry lock and sturdy dead bolt.
Spare
keys are kept with a trusted neighbor, not in a planter, under a
doormat, or mailbox.
Garages
The
door leading to the house from the attached garage is solid wood or
metal-clad with a keyed entry lock and dead bolt.
The
overhead garage door has a lock installed. Do not rely solely on the
automatic garage door opener for security.
Garage
door is locked when you leave the residence.
Sliding Glass Doors
The
sliding glass door has a strong, working key lock or is securely pinned.
A
dowel or pin to secure a glass door has been installed to prevent the

The
sliding door is locked every night and each time you leave your house.
Protecting Windows
Every
window in the house has a working key lock or is securely pinned
Windows
are always locked, even when they are opened a few inches for
ventilation
Outdoor Security
Shrubs
and bushes are trimmed so there is no place for a prowler to hide.
There
are no dark areas around your house, garage, shed, or yard at night for
a prowler to hide.
Every
outside door has a bright, working light to illuminate visitors.
Store
ladders and all tools in a locked garage or shed.

pictures and record all serial numbers of electronic appliances, mowers,
snow blowers, jewelry, bicycles etc.
Videotape
all of your property.
Consider
installation of an alarm system.
